April 6, 2009
We have ordered the Yanmar 2YM15 with a company that will install engine as well, although some finishing work will be left.
We await for the contract to be finalized and for details on timing of delivery and installement.
Our options were:
2YM15 (14pk) à EUR 6060,-
3YM20 (21pk) à EUR 6950,-
3YM30 (29pk) à EUR 7990,-
After acquiring advice from different sources and after having calculated the hull speed of the Nomad
it appeared the 2YM15 was actually the only choice for our vessel unless we wanted to waste money
and add unneeded weight to the ship.

Late February 2009
The UK based engine supplier never repied to our email asking for more details (e.g. timing) afer receiving their quote.
We didn't go for the company in Belgium neither because the only thing they could guarantee was the price of the engine.
They claimed they had (finally) inspected the Nomad and that the fuel thank needed replacement as well because it had rusted.
The tank is in inox stainless steel so Nico and I had our doubts about this survey. On top of it that company said they could not
provide any indication on when the work would start or end. (...)
Other engagements brought us through the seasons of 2008 and it isn't sure we'll be able to focus on the Nomad in 2009 either
as other engagements and issues need our attention and no engagement whatsoever came from those who showed interest in
sailing on the Nomad either.

May 2008
We have decided to upgrade the engine of the "Nomad". Likely installation of the new engine will take place in July.
The company selling the engine will then take a look onboard to assess whether the Yanmar can be fitted in the Nomad. If so they will go ahead.
The engine was cheaper if bought in the UK but then the boat needed to be put into the water, sailed over and next be taken out of the water again.
That operation would most likely melt away price difference. The selling company in Flanders is 2 minutes walk from where the Nomad is now.
The old engine will be recycled. We still look into a giving it a good destination.

The original engine started working in 1973 and although in perfectly working condition might need someone to deal with it from time to time who has as
well over 30 years of Diesel-engine knowledge! With plans to scout up stream of some rivers the new engine will provide not only more power but as well
more safety and security. We don't go for speed but more power means the Nomad will react faster to the movements of the rudder.
The new engine with its 14hp almost doubles the (aged) 8hp of the old SABB engine while consuming only the same 3 liter of diesel an hour.
The upgraded Yanmar alternator will deliver 80 Ampere, enough to power all thinkable electrical applications.
Last but not least: the Yanmar will produce much less noise and be less polluting otherwise too.
